Must know Poker Etiquette

Regardless of whether poker takes place at a casino or online at a UK Poker Site, poker has a basic etiquette that players need to be aware of and abide by. By following these rules of acceptable behaviour, the game is able to run fairly and smoothly.
1. Do not discuss your cards if play is in action: If you fold, it can often be tempting to talk about the hand if you had stayed in the game. The downside to this is if any opponents hear what you are saying, they could use your information to their advantage.
2. Do not reveal your hands until Showdown: If you fold, ensure that you do not flip or flash your cards as again this will give other players vital information which could change how the rest of the game is played.
3. Play in turn: Even if you have a fantastic hand and cannot wait to raise the pot, remember to wait until it is your turn. The same rule applies to folding if you find you have a poor hand. By jumping the gun, other players may receive information before they have made a decision and could confuse the action.
4. Do not splash the pot: A bad betting habit often seen in the movies if splashing the pot. This is when a player throws his bet in a heap in the centre of the pot, making it difficult to see what the player has bet. Stack chips neatly in from of you instead.
5. Do not make string bets: Another bad habit seen in many movies is the string bet. This is where a player will say ‘Ill call you 200…and raise another 500.’ You need to decide whether you want to call or raise.
6. If you show one then show all: If you happen to win a hand before showdown and want to reveal your cards, do not just show them to one player. The cards need to be displayed for the entire table to view.
7. Do not display rudeness or meanness: Even if you find yourself having a bad losing streak, do not be offensive to other players or discourteous to the dealer. You will lose friends as well as the pot.
8. Pay attention: If you are in a hand, pay attention. Keep up with the action so the game stays in motion.
